What should you do in case of an accident

  1. Keep calm!
  2. Stop the vehicle immediately!
  3. Switch on hazard lights
  4. Set up the breakdown triangle
  5. Put on your safety vest
  6. Provide first aid
  7. If necessary, call rescue / police
  8. Inform the disposition by telephone
  9. Document the evidence

On country roads, a safety vest must always be worn by drivers of multi-lane motor vehicles, a breakdown triangle may need to be set up in accordance with the law, e.g. when the car is not clearly visible due to its location on the road, as well as in poor visibility situations such as at dusk or dawn or when it is already dark.

On highways or dual-carriage ways it is always mandatory to wear a safety vest, regardless of the visibility, when the driver leaves the vehicle to assess the problem and is on the road or the service lane.

If the fault for the incident is clearly ours and no personal injury has occurred, the police do not need to be informed. In all other cases, always contact the police.

Should there be injured persons in an accident, first aid should be provided in accordance with your abilities and as long as the assistance does not cause harm to yourself (first aid, rescue - emergency call 144)

Inform the dispatcher as soon as possible.

After the disposition has been notified, evidence should be documented and secured.Photos of the accident damage to your own vehicle and also the vehicle of the other driver are essential. Skid marks on the road also need to be photographed. In addition, it makes sense and will very helpful if you can get contact information from any possible witnesses.
